The wedding of Sri Rama and Sita is a significant event in the Ramayana. It sets an example to the mankind on how a marital relationship should be! Therefore, this ritual is performed regularly as a tradition to remind us of the sacred marital relationship and the duties involved in this. Come, witness and be blessed!
'Rama Rasam' is a word coined by the great carnatic music composer Sri Tyagaraja Swamy to describe the drink offered to lord Shri Ram as 'Naivedyam' on Shri Rama Navami. 'Rama Rasam' also called as 'Panakam' is a traditional South Indian drink made with jaggery, black pepper, cardamoms and water.
In a typical south Indian wedding, on the arrival of groom and his family to the wedding venue, the bride's parents and family receive and welcome them with a spectacular gaiety amidst traditional music of Nadaswaram. This ritual is called Edurukolu.
In Hindu culture, a Pravara (Sanskrit for "most excellent") refers to a system of identity, particularly a family line. In Sita Rama Kalynam, this is a very interesting event where 'Pravaras' of both Sri Rama and Sita are called out in a unique way!
Sumuhurtam is the auspicious moment when the bride and groom are united with a sacred ritual. This occurs at 12:00 hrs in Sita Rama Kalynam which is also called as 'Abhijit Lagnam'.
This exciting ritual follows Sumuhurtam, when the bride and groom shower rice grains over their heads as a symbol of sanctified relationship, happiness and prosperity.
No Hindu wedding is complete without a sumptious meal at the end and so is our Sita Rama Kalyanam. The only difference here is we consider this as a blessed sacred meal (Prasadam).
